Description

Blocks of surviving ridge and furrow of Stewkley parish, consolidated around the village, enclosed 1811. Total acreage (1995): 22% survival - 874 acres. Assessment made for Monuments Protection Programme (MPP) (B1).
In September 2005 AS&C carried out an earthwork survey of a small field of surviving ridge and furrow to the south of Manor Drive, prior to development for housing. The ridge and furrow was aligned NE-SW, the centres of the 8 ridges being an average of 7.5m apart, with the ridges generally surviving no more than 0.25m-0.30m above the base of the forrows. An evaluation trial trench failed to provide any dating evidence or evidence for manuring scatters (B2).
