Description

DISCOVERY OF ?OLD WELL APPARENTLY USED FOR SEPULCHRAL PURPOSES DURING DIGGING OF FOUNDATIONS. CHAMBER BENEATH HARD BLUE STONE CONTAINED FRAGMENTS OF CINERARY URNS, SOME WITH HUMAN BONES. 2ND CHAMBER WITH SIMILAR CONTENTS (B1).
A SANCTUARY OF BELGIC BRITONS? (B10).
BOTTOM 28FT 3IN BELOW NATURAL SURFACE (B5).



(SP 780121) Roman & Anglo Saxon remains found (NAT) (For details of RB and AS remains at Stone - see Map Diagram) (B14).

Roman artefacts have been found at the following locations:
SP 781124 - Coin of Constantine I (B15).
SP 77951261 - Pottery and quern fragment (B16).
SP 77851216 - Double handled urn and two smaller urns. SP 7812 - Urn fragments 2' below the surface. SP 77661203 - Coins of Domitian and Vespasian (B17).
SP 78751218 - Roman bronze finger ring (B18).
SP 78121248 - Coin of Diocletian. SP 77731216 - Coin of Valentinian (B19).
