Description

The 1:10000 map shows the parish boundary, the site runs along this between where the Great Horwood and Little Horwood boundary meet the Winslow Boundary to Cakeford in Great Horwood (B1). Photo evidence shows a bank and ditch running through fields (B2). The bank is on average approximately 2m across with a further 1 1/2m on either side for the ditch. It is on average approximately 1/2m high.
An article tracing the 10th century boundary of Winslow Manor (originally granted by King Offa in 792 AD to the Church of St Albans and re-endowered in 948 AD), suggests that the zig-zagging of the boundary between Little and Great Horwood reflects the furlongs that were in place when the boundary was agreed. The Charter refers to a 'bank' and 'long ditch' (B2)
