Description

An 18th century house, the gardens were first mentioned on the first edition 6" OS map. It shows tree lined avenues leading up to the house, a formal garden featuring and ornamental pool, and a ha ha to the rear of the house. Also woodland and parkland. The grounds also included a lodge. Modern maps and AP's show most of the grounds still to be intact and retain their 1883 look. Gardens do not look as good as they could do, formal layout seems to have lost its formality (B2).
