Description

The first edition 6" OS map shows lodge with formal gardens and park area to south, probably part of Chalfont Park. Recent AP's show that nothing much has changed (B8).
Chalfont Lodge was built in 1799 by John Nash for Thomas Hibbert and was used by his brother Robert Hibbert (presumably from 1801 when Robert sold Painshill, to 1819 when he inherited Chalfont Park from Thomas). Humphry Repton may have been involved in designing the pleasure garden and landscaping around Chalfont Lodge as he was also working (in partnership with Nash) at Chalfont Park (B13).
