Description
N OF RAILWAY LINE, N OF LOWER BLACKGROVE FARM. UNDATED DITCHES. N.B. SINGLE ONE TO SOUTH OF LINE NOT RECORDED FOR CASS. FOUND DURING EVALUATION OF AYLESBURY-STEPPINGLEY PIPELINE.(B1)
10 linear features were recorded - they were probably post-medieval in date and may relate to the Aylesbury to Claydon Junction railway. Three of the ditches contained possible post-medieval brick, tile and chalk rubble. Fragments of wood were found in ditch 2538, which suggests a late date, although they may have resulted from root action. Two ditches contained compacted chalk rubble, which is not local. They were probably drainage works put in after the railway was built (B2).
