Monument record 0064800000 - LODGE HILL, BLEDLOW

In 1938 several sherds of IA pottery, a flint scraper, and a fragment of bone were discovered at SP 78770057. A year later Mr J F Head and Col. Serocold examined the site and discovered four roughly semi-circular pits, being all part of one unit, and averaging two feet in depth. These were at first thought to be storage pits, but were later classified as 'working places'. IA SETTLEMENT SITE 600M S OF UPPER ICKNIELD WAY. 4 IRREGULAR INTERSECTING PITS, VERTICAL SIDES & FLAT BOTTOMS: PROBABLY WORKING PLACE, NOT STORAGE (CF.WOODBURY). 'OCCUPATION LEVEL' EXTENDED ACROSS BRIM OF PITS & OVER WHOLE SITE: MANY FINDS. DATE 300-250BC? FARM NEARBY? (B1).

Finds included bone implements, of the All Cannings Cross type, a ring-headed pin of bronze and an iron hook. Pottery sherds were of Wessex A2 character and a date of c 300 to 250 BC was suggested for the occupation. No further information (B8).
