Description
ARCH. EVALUATION RECOVERED 538 WORKED FLINTS, LARGELY IN 2 CLUSTERS. MAJOR CLUSTER FOUND AT SOUTH OF SITE ('FIELD 12' IN THE REPORT) NGR TO APPROX. CENTRE OF CLUSTER. MATERIAL DATED FROM LATE NEO-LATE BA. HIGH PROPORTION OF ALL TOOLS FOUND & HIGH RATIO OF TOOLS TO WASTE FLAKES SUGGESTS DOMESTIC ACTIVITY (B1).
Geophysical survey carried out by Northamptonshire Archaeology in March 2010 identified a short L-shaped ditched anomaly in the same area as the concentration of fieldwalking finds. Extensive anomalies of medieval ridge and furrow were found across the area and may be masking underlying archaeology. See report for detail (B4).
Residual finds of 3 prehistoric flints recovered from middle Iron Age ditches during evaluation trial trenching and excavation carried out by Archaeological Service & Consultancy Ltd between December 2012 and May 2013 (B6).
