Anglo Saxon burials found in the grounds of Tythrop House adjoining Thame Field, when digging out some rabbits, in the spring of 1858. The original report of December 1859, when drawings were sent to Bucks Architect and Arch Soc, mentions that urns containing cremations (typical A/S decorated urns illustrated), a coin of Hadrian from one urn, and an oval pendant illustrating a cupid as a reaper. Also an iron spearhead nearby. It was suggested that further researches should be undertaken (B1).

Head (2) lists a number of additional iron objects from the site in Taunton Museum, which he has checked with the curator, including a shield boss, two spearheads and a knife. He estimates this represents ten inhumations although there is no mention of skeletal remains other than that in the urns (B7).

A Saxon brooch in Aylesbury Museum (b4) may also be from this site. An iron spearhead is also in Aylesbury Museum (5). Accession No 4:1860. Myres suggests a 6th century date for the urns (b7). Listed as ? mixed burials by Meaney (b8). (B4, B7, B8).

NRHE update 1999 (B14).
