Description

GRADE II+. C18. REPEATS THE DESIGN OF THE NORTH LODGE EXCEPT FOR THE WEST FRONT, WHICH HAS AN OPEN IONIC COLONNADE WITH SQUARE CORNER PILLARS (B9).
Short article on the symbolism of the original siting of the temples of Venus and of Daphne at West Wycombe Park (B19).
Kitty's Lodge and Daphne's Temple, were erected to flank the original main entrance to the north of the house, and were designed to appear together as twin lodges viewed from the road. Daphne's Temple presents a symmetrical (blind) façade to the north, concealing an Ionic portico which forms a principal eye-catcher from the lake. Both buildings appear on the 1752 survey and were probably the work of Donowell (B13).
