Description

Grade II+. Late C18, designed as one of the buildings of West Wycombe Park. Stucco, Welsh slates. Tower form of square plan. 3 storeys, cornice, pedimented east and west fronts. 1st floor flint band, east front flint arch with key block containing entrance and window. Upper storeys have Doric angle pilasters, sash window in chamfered reveal; west front upper floor loggia (B9).
This small temple designed by Revett is located within the enlarged park of the later 18th century, east of the Citadel island and north of the relief channel which circumvents the Sawmill. The temple is a square-plan stuccoed brick tower, three storeys high with pedimented fronts to east and west. A flint arch to the east contains the entrance, and the west front (facing the house) houses an open first floor loggia. The whole is flankedby a three-storey façade in flint rubble and red brick with small obelisk pinnacles. According to Richard Wheeler, it was remodelled by Marshall Sisson in the 1940s/50s (B13).
