A post-medieval brickfield for brick and tilemaking is visible on historic aerial photographs as earthworks and was mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located in a field immediately adjacent Dunton Road and W of Kiln Farm, Stewkley, centred at SP 84762 24994, an area of clay extraction of around 13,782 square metres is set within blocks of former medieval ridge and furrow cultivation, of which fragments are still extant on aerial photographs taken in 1944 and 1946. Aerial photographs taken in 1944 and 1946 show undulating and disturbed ground. This site shows several buildings in an area identified as ‘Old Clay Pits’, ‘Brickfield’ and ‘Kiln’ on the 1881 1st edition OS map. The 1813 Ordnance Surveyor Drawing shows buildings and a kiln to the northeast (HER No MBC43583), so possibly the brickfield and kiln moved to the SW as clay extraction extended (8-13).
