Description

Grade II. Public house. 2 C17 bays with central chimney, lobby entry and later C17 cross wing to right, all refronted late C18-early C19; early C19 cottage wing across front of cross wing; circa 1900 projection to front of original left bay. Other extensions to rear. Original building has timber frame with whitewashed brick infill to left gable, and front rebuilt in flint with narrow brick dressings, narrow first floor band-course, and roughcast gable to right bay, all whitewashed. Whitewashed brick extensions. C20 tiled roofs, slate roof to left projection. Original brick chimney has recessed panel with flat brick arch and keyblock. C17 parts are of l½ storeys, with only one gabled bay now exposed to front. This has C20 3-light barred wooden casements. Lobby entry to left has C19-C20 gabled porch. Projection to left has horizontal sliding sash to ground floor, 2-light casement above, and C20 door in right return. Early C19 wing to right is of 2 storeys and 2 bays, with barred wooden casements and central door. Interior: timber framing in C17 parts; chamfered spine beam in left bay; fireplace in right bay with arched niche flanked by rectangular niches above; curved wind-braces, steeply pitched in cross wing.
