Description

Grade II. House. C17, altered. Timber frame with brick infill to front gable, remainder flint and brick with some narrow brick dressings. Old tile roof. Group of 4 square brick chimney shafts to centre of left side, with flues from lateral chimney serving front bay and central cross chimney serving far bay. 2 storeys and attic, 2 bays. C20 barred wooden casements to front gable and left side. Right side has catslide extension to front bay, central C20 door in lean-to porch in angle, some leaded casements to far bay, and flat-roofed dormer. Interior: ground floor fireplaces have 4-centred chamfered brick arches; first floor fireplaces have depressed arches of chamfered brick, that to far bay with moulded plaster spandrels; chamfered cross beam with one end stopped in front bay. Far bay has central queen post truss, and, has probably been extended. Building may have originally extended further to front. RCHM I p.158. Mon. 3 (B1).
