Description

Grade II. Early C19. 2 storey. Painted stucco. Moulded cornice. Hipped slate roof. River front has flanking 2 storey wide angular bays, one wide double window between bays on 1st floor. Doric verandah of columns and entablature across ground floor. Projecting wing to right hand with one corner window. The west front of similar general design. A pleasant riverside house in large garden which forms an attractive end to the street (B1).
Thames Bank was built about 1770 by Sarah Winford. Originally three storeys, the top storey was removed by Sarah or her daughter Harriot by the early 19th century. In 1811 the property was bought by Vice Admiral Sir James Nicoll Morris, who had commanded HMS Colossus at the battle of Trafalgar. His nephew Thomas Somers Cocks, a banker, extended the grounds. The house was gutted by fire in 1992 [Illustrations and photo] (B2).
Thames Lawn, an 18th century three-bay brick house, made two-storey and stuccoed in the early 19th century, and with early 20th century additions (pre-1926), including a Tuscan colonnade across the river front, a portico with a Mediterranean flavour on the end, and a 17th century-style entrance doorcase. Also a more sympathetic wing of c.1951 by H Courtenay Constantine. All damaged by fire in 1992 (B3).
