Description

ROMAN WELL & PAVEMENTS FOUND MID C19TH IN FRONT OF HOUSE IN ALL HALLOWS LANE (NOW CASTLE STREET) ADJOINING THE PRIORY (B1).
NOTED AS A SUBSTANTIAL ROMAN BUILDING (B4).
PRESUMED CONNECTION WITH FINDS OF WALLING ON SITE OF WESLEYAN CHAPEL (CASS 00616)(B6).

(SU 86539313) A Roman well was discovered a few years ago "in the garden in front of the house in Allhallows Lane adjoining the house formerly called Wellysbourne House, but lately the Priory" On the same premises at the same time some early tessellated pavements were found, and when digging the foundations of the Wesleyan Chapel in the immediate vicinity a portion of ancient walling was discovered. (Sited at SU 86539313 from Parker's sketch map - well and pavements only - Chapel not marked) (B8).

The area of the Roman finds is built over, and no further finds have been reported. The Wesleyan Chapel lies at SU 8655 9320 (B9).
