Description

Grade II. Public house. C17, altered C18 and C19-C20. Centre part originally timber-framed but almost completely rebuilt in brick and whitewashed. Projecting cross wing to left, formerly a barn, has timber framing to upper storey with weatherboard cladding along left side. Projecting wing to right is C19, of brick. C20 plain tile roof to main part, old tile roof to left wing. Brick chimneys. One storey and attic with 2-storey side wings. Centre part is of 3 bays: left bay has large barred wooden casement and C20 half-glazed door with flat wooden hood on brackets; centre bay has bay window converted to porch, and small C20 first floor window; right bay has pent roof over canted bay window, and paired wooden casement in gabled eaves-line dormer. Left wing has blind gable, and horizontal sliding sash and C20 French doors in right return. Right wing has gable with dentilled border and 4-pane sashes. Interior: centre part has large fireplace and stop-chamfered spine beam in right bay, and exposed truss with curved braces. Left wing has trusses with roughly cambered tie-beams, curved braces and queen struts. Curved wind-braces in roof, inserted floor (B1).
