Description
Grade II. Late C17 house extended south in circa 1780 and west block added circa 1820. Two storeys, 3 bay west front and 4 bay returns. Three parallel roofs, all hipped, 2 rear ones hipped and old tiled, front one shallower pitch and slated. Much brickwork painted. C17 cross casements to north and east: C18 box sashes with cambered heads to south, and west block with recessed barred sashes to upper floor. French casements to ground floor (in arched panels to front). Central door with Doric porch of 1924 by Hubert Lidbetter. Rear block with band course. Wood bell turret with weather vane. Noted for Quaker associations (B1).
Stone Dean said to have been built in 1691 by Peter Prince, a Quaker tallow-chandler, and his decendants, the Bakers and Butterfields, lived there during the 18th century (B2).
