Description

Grade II. C17 timber-framed house of 2 storeys on a letter-L plan. Old tile roof. Brick infill to framing. Paired leaded casements. West range 3 bays with stack to left and between left hand bays. East range 2 bays with end stack having offsets and roof-ridge slightly higher than west range. One storey addition to south. RCHM I 85 MON.10 (B1).

Chalfont St. Peter: "Ashwells Farm, about 1 1/2 miles north of the church, is a 17th c. house of two storeys, timber-framed, with brick filling: except to east wall, which is partly faced with modern brick.The roofs are tiled. The plan is L shaped. At the south end is a largestepped chimney stack with two square shafts, built of thin bricks, and at the west end is a smaller stack also with square shafts. Two of the windows, with diamond shaped quarries, are original ... Condition - Fairly good; the timber-framing is somewhat decayed" (B3).
Ashwell's Farm: (Nameplate) A two-storied timber and brick private residence, with gabled attics. The roofs are of modern tiles, windows are modern with the exception of the two referred to by Authority 2, chimneys have been restored with the exception of the large external one at the south end which is in English bond. Brickwork infilling is
everywhere of Flemish bond, and most timberwork is original. The sturcture is in excellent condition. There are modern additions at the south end. All outbuildings are of a late period of construction. Ground photograph see AO/59/5/4 (B4).
