Description

Grade II. C16 and early C17 row of cottages, altered. Timber framed upper floor with brick nogging; recessed ground floor built out in C18 flush with lst floor in brick. Old tiled roof, colourwash to front brickwork. L plan with No 76 facing New Footpath. Single storey and attic wing on left to No 66 with gabled dormer. 8 casement windows to main block facing road. RCHM Bucks, I, 95. Nos 66 and Nos 70 to 76 (even) form a group (B1-2).
NGR to No 72.
Historic building recording carried out by James Moir of Chiltern Open-Air Museum in 1999 during internal alterations at No 72. Formerly a public house, with the ground floor front rooms acting as a snug and tap room. Suggested sequence: No 70 built in early 16th century, No 72 built in about 1700, and No 74 built in the 19th century. See report for detail (B3).
