Description

1599 MAP SHOWS WINDMILL BY 'CHURCHILL' APPROX AT NGR (B1).
MILLS AT SWANBOURNE MENTIONED IN C13 & C14. A WINDMILL LATER OWNED BY DEVERELL FAMILY, BEING WILLED JULY 1559. AT END OF C16 JOHN DEVERELL BEQUEATHED 'THE OLD WINDMILL UPON CHURCH HILL' & THE 'NEW WINDMILL' TO HIS SONS (B2).
PROB SITED ON MOUND (B3-5).
Evaluation trial trenching by Archaeological Solutions in May and June 2011 identified a substantial Medieval ditch which may possibly be associated with the windmill site (B6).
