Description

Grade II. Cottage orne. Early C19. Pebbledashed with plain-tile roof to central unit, thatch roofs to wings, brick ridge and end stacks. T-plan. Roughly symmetrical composition of small central block flanked by small wings, all single-storey. Centre has central plank door with pointed arched head flanked by 2-light leaded casement windows with pointed arched heads, central division and glazing bars to head evoking Y-tracery. Similar Gothick leaded casement to wing to left. Right wing has plank door to left with pointed-arched head and small quartered window to far right. Wing to rear, behind central unit, has half-hipped thatch roof and attic storey, with pair of 2-light leaded casements to ground floor with pointed-arched heads and 2-light leaded casement to attic. INTERIOR: right wing is separate from the rest of the cottage and was formerly an outbuilding with a copper. It retains a brick fireplace with cambered iron bar to head of opening. The roof is visible here and has one tier of purlins of undressed timber, said by owner to be ash, and similar ridge piece. Undressed timbers reputed to be used throughout the roofs (B1).
