Description

Grade II. Terrace of 4 shops and dwellings. Early C19 with C20 alterations. Red brick in Flemish bond, hipped slate roof, brick ridge stacks. Double-depth plan. 4-storey, 9-window range. Carriageway to far right. Rest of ground floor is occupied by shop fronts, that to far left with central, part-glazed door, ornamental overlight and glazing bars to large shop windows either side - possibly original or in Georgian style. 12-pane sash windows to 1st floor with intersecting glazing bars to gauged brick, round-arched heads, except for 12-pane sash above carriageway with gauged brick, flat-arched head. Similar windows to 2nd floor and 9-pane sashes to 3rd floor, all with gauged brick, flat-arched heads. 4 giant pilasters to upper floors with rubbed brick Tuscan capitals divide terrace into 2-bay sections with one bay above carriageway. Corbelled, moulded brick eaves cornice. Rear elevation has irregular glazing of sash windows, some coursed limestone rubble walling and thin timber-framing to wall above carriageway. INTERIOR: No.8 has stone cellar with double wave-moulded,Tudor-arched oak doorway. Panelled room to ground floor rear with arcaded fluting to frieze, moulded cornice and boxed spine beam. Fireplace of c1830 of veined white marble (B2).
