Description

Grade II. Outbuilding. C18, altered early C19. Rendered over coursed limestone rubble and red brick with old plain-tile roof, half-hipped to right. Rectangular in plan. 1 storey and loft. Building stands to left and well forward of Prebend House on street line and attached to No.2 to left [CAS 11835]. It has central carriageway with rendered brick, elliptical-arched head, flanked by pedestrian doorways with plank doors. Chamfered, rendered quoins and moulded rendered eaves. Cobbled carriageway has beamed ceiling. Red brick wall visible to rear (B1).
Watching brief carried out in December 2001 by Albion Archaeology during consolidation works to building foundations suggested that the substantial 18th and 19th century foundations and cellarage had destroyed any earlier archaeological evidence. See report for detail (B2).
