Description

Grade II. Row of cottages, now partly offices. Late C15/early C16 altered C17, early C19 and C20. Timber-framed with red brick infill, plain-tile roof, brick ridge and rear lateral stacks. 1- and 2-unit plans. 2-storey, 6-window range. Gabled porch to far left, C20 passage door to left of centre with overlight, and 6-panel, part-glazed door to right of centre. Small canted bay windows to centre and to right, a 3-light casement window to ground floor left and a bay window to right of porch. The 1st floor is jettied and has small 2-light window to 1st floor left of centre at floor level with sunk quadrant moulded surround. Other 2-light windows to 1st floor, those to right of centre with sliding casements. Various extensions to rear, either 2-storey with gabled roofs or single-storey with cat-slide roofs. Limestone rubble plinth to Nos 29 & 30 which have portions of original timber-framed ground-floor wall which is otherwise rebuilt in brick. Timber-framing in small square and rectangular panels. INTERIOR No.29 has chamfered and ogee stop-chamfered spine beams with some original ogee stop-chamfered joists. Substantial tie beam with curved braces. No.27 has stop-chamfered spine beams and C19 veined grey marble chimneypieces to ground floor with cast-iron tiled grates. Tie beam to roof which has queen struts to collar and wind-braced purlins (B1).
