Description

Grade II. Shops and offices, formerly shops and dwelling. Late C15/early C16, altered C19 and C20. Timber frame, rendered, with incised masonry patterns, Plain-tile roofs, and brick ridge and end stacks. L-plan. 2-storey, 4-window range. Carriageway to right of centre with moulded wood fascia over wood lintel. C20 shop front to right. Similar shop front to left with pair of panelled, part-glazed doors to left side of shop window, with overlights, all under continuous fascia with moulded cornice. Tripartite sash window to ground floor far left, with moulded, rendered surround. 12-pane sash windows to 1st floor, except for 9-pane sash over carriageway. 2-storey wing to rear left (No.10 Meadow Row) probably C17 in origin but considerably rebuilt C20, is rendered and has brick end stack and C20 shop front facing former courtyard known as Stationers Court. INTERIOR: No.2 has many-moulded cross beam ceiling, moulded cornice and stop-moulded joists, with painted chevron decoration to cornice and large open fireplaces with cambered bar stop-chamfered bressumer and bread oven. First floor has scoop stop-chamfered spine beams. No.10 Meadow Row has open fireplace with cambered ogee stop-chamfered bressumer (B1).
