Description

Grade II. Two houses, formerly part of same building. Early-mid C15, sub-divided late C18/early C19 and altered C20. Coursed limestone rubble, probably with timber-framed 1st floor, rendered to front, with plain-tile roofs and brick ridge stacks. 3 units. 2-storey, 5-window range. No.21 (Priory House) has 6-panel door with panelled reveals, and moulded wood surround, flanked by 12-pane windows and 3-light casement windows to 1st floor left and right, either side of 3-light leaded original window with square wood mullions. No.22 has 6-panel door to far left with straight hood on shaped brackets, 12-pane sash window to ground floor right and 2-light sliding sash windows to 1st floor. 2-storey wings to rear, largely C20. INTERIOR: both houses have chamfered cross beam ceilings to ground floor. 1st floors are timber-framed and were formerly open to roof. No.21 has small stone fireplace to 1st floor room with stop-chamfered, cambered bressumer. 3-bay roof has tie beams to principals with short arch-braces to ties, large collars, a possible second tier of collars and 2 tiers of trenched purlins, the lower tier wind-braced. No.22 has small stone cellar with spine beam and reused joists, some roll-moulded and hollow-chamfered with scoop stops. Similar 2-bay roof. Original stud partition between No.22 and the adjacent house No.23 [CAS 1181102000]. Both houses were built as one, which also included part or all of No.23 (B1).
