Description

Grade II. Town house. Probably late C17, remodelled early C19, with mid-C18 and C20 alterations. Stuccoed, with slate roof and rendered end stacks. T-plan. 2-storeys and attics; 6-window range.
Fine early C19 door in columned porch to left of centre, divided horizontally into 3 panels, that to top glazed, reeded bottom panel, and large square middle panel framing large circular boss or shield of concentric, circular mouldings with lion's head knocker to centre. The porch is of Portland stone with square bases to columns, which are fluted to lower halves and have unusual order with slender necks bearing Greek key pattern and Greek Doric capitals on plain inverted caps; pilasters to match innermost; moulded cornice and pedimented parapet with central paterae and antefixes. Carriageway to far right with panelled, double-leaf doors. Door is flanked by tripartite sash windows with moulded, rendered surrounds and console brackets to sill and moulded cornice. 12-pane sash to 1st floor above door with similar surround. 12-pane sashes to 1st floor either side with plain sills. Moulded cornice and attic storey above with incised rectangular panels alternating with paterae. Boxed eaves broken by pair of straight-headed dormer windows with 16-pane sashes. 2-storey wing to rear with hipped, plain-tile roof and 2- and 3-light casement windows.
INTERIOR: vestibule passage has panelled dado and fluted Doric pilasters. Archway at end of passage preceding stair with moulded surround with round trefoiled head. Front range has stop-chamfered spine beams. Corner fireplace to ground floor left room. Mid-C18 open-well staircase with column on vase balusters. Stone cellar (B1).
