Description

Grade II. Two houses in one building. Mid-C18, altered and extended C19 and C20. Red brick in Flemish bond with plain-tile roof, and brick ridge and end stacks. T-plan to No.14, double-depth plan to No.15.
2 storeys and attic; 5-window range. Central carriageway divides houses with C19, Tudor-arched chamfered brick head. 6-panel, part-glazed door to right (to No.14), approached by 3 stone steps, with reeded wood surround, overlight, panelled reveals and moulded cornice. Panelled, part-glazed door to left (to No.15), approached by 4 stone steps with low flanking walls ending in short polygonal piers with moulded bases and caps. Door has large central panel framing an incised band of concentric circles, reeded wood surround, rectangular fanlight, panelled reveals and curved ridged timber canopy. 16-pane sash windows to right of centre to No.14, 12-pane sashes to left, all with flat-arched, gauged brick heads, which have flush painted stone key and spandrel blocks; one blank window to 1st floor centre of No.15 with similar head. Plinth, storey band and corbelled brick eaves. 4 hipped roof dormer windows with 2-light casements. 4 small rectangular painted stone reliefs of a lion with one paw raised, set at regular intervals above storey band. A full-height wing projects to rear of No.14. No.15 has 2-storey brick wing, panelled to front range with hipped slate roof and row of 12-pane sashes to 1st floor with flat-arched heads.
INTERIOR: No.14 has moulded wood coved cornice to front room and former basement kitchen with fireplace, which has timber lintel (B1).
