Description

No.1 Bristle Hill includes: No.7A Castle Street.
Grade II. House, now shop and workshop. Late C17/early C18, altered C19 and C20. Red brick in Flemish bond, hipped C20 plain-tile roof, brick end and ridge stacks. 2-unit lobby entry plan. 2 storeys and attic; 3-window range. Main front facing Bristle Hill has central blocked original door with segmental-arched head. C19 part-glazed door approached by 3 steps to left of centre with wood lintel. Bay window to left with limestone rubble base, brick-quoined, incorporating large ammonite to front in brick panel; timber superstructure with hipped plain-tile roof. Shop window to right with rendered surround and moulded cornice. Similar shop window to right side elevation facing Castle Street. First floor has 16-pane sash window to centre with wood lintel flanked by tripartite sashes; blank window to right side elevation. High coursed squared limestone plinth, storey band and wave-moulded brick eaves. 2 gabled roof dormer windows. INTERIOR: workshop to ground floor left has large open fireplace with stop-chamfered bressumer. Collar truss roof (B1).
