Description

Grade II. House. Early C19, with C20 alterations. Rendered, probably over brick, hipped slate roof and rendered lateral stacks. L-plan. 3-storey, 3-window range. Main front faces garden and has central 6-panel door with overlight and straight hood on brackets, almost certainly replacing porch, the position of whose front columns is marked on wide stone step preceding door. Door is flanked by 3-storey segmental bay windows each with curved 16-pane sashes to ground and 1st floors and similar 12-pane sashes to 2nd floor. Windows are flanked by giant pilasters, fluted from 1st-floor level and with egg-and-dart ornament to capitals. Blank 1st- and 2nd-floor windows to centre, above door. Plinth, cellar windows to bays, 1st- and 2nd-floor storey bands and deep overhanging eaves with moulded cornice to underside. 3-bay left side elevation with 12-pane sashes to ground and 1st and 9-pane sashes to 2nd floor. Stair projection to rear in re-entrant angle between front and rear left wing. INTERIOR: staircase from cellar to attic with confined open well and flights rising in tight curves between floors; ramped and wreathed mahogany handrail and stick balusters. Drawing room has moulded plaster cornice and original pelmet boxes (B1).
