DURING REPLACEMENT OF WATER MAIN NEAR MODERN GATEHOUSE THE BASE OF A MEDIEVAL CHALK WALL EXPOSED. ITS W FACE HAD BEEN DAMAGED BY MACHINES: THE CHALK BLOCKS HAD BEEN SET IN MORTAR & PROBABLY LAID IN COURSES (SEE NOTES & FURTHER DESCRIPTION) (B24).
