Description

Grade II. Public House. C18 or early C19 with remains of C17 wing at N. end. Painted brick, slate roof with projecting chimney to S. gable. 2 storeys, 2 bays of sash windows, tripartite to ground floor. Central modern gabled porch. N. wing timber framed with old tiled roof, attached wing to west timber framed with modern sheet roof (B1).
The Chequers, also known as The Ninepin and Bowl, open before 1753 and still in use. Rebuilt on adjoining site between 1783 and 1799. The west extension now has an artificial slate roof. There is rubbed brickwork above the window to the left of the porch (B2).
