Description
Grade II. C17 and earlier. One storey and attic. Colour washed rubble. Thatched roof, half hipped at ends. Irregular 3-bay front with three 3-light casements to ground floor with shutters, 2-light casements above in thatch, with leaded glazing. Stack to right of centre and on south gable with door to left. Interior has remains of a cruck truss on right of central stack. Blades terminate above collar (B1).
1 cruck truss with single curve blades, truncated above the collar, passing the collar but with no upper structure. Source: G.M. Beresford; Rec. Buckinghamshire 17, 1967, 134 (B2).
Building survey and documentary research suggest the building was constructed as a two-bay house with one remaining cruck truss, terminating just above the collar (type 'W'). At some point (presumably the 17th century) the building was reduced in size with dismantled cruck blades possibly being re-used in the adjacent property (27 High Street). The building was refered to in a documented in 1600 and may be mentioned in 1552. See report for detail (B3).
