Description

Grade II. Medieval, C17 and C19, altered. One storey and attic. Timber framed with colour washed brick front. Thatched roof, half hipped on right. Five modern 3-light casements and door. Four 2-light upper casements under thatch. Lower wing on right, also thatched, with timbers exposed in gable. Part of a cruck truss visible at junction of wing and main block at rear. Two small rear additions with tiled roofs and large stone and brick chimney stack at rear of main block (B1).
1 cruck truss with single curve blades. Source: G.M. Beresford; Rec. Buckinghamshire, 17, 1967, 134 (B2).
Historic building recording and documentary research suggests that the building was originally of three bays and has three pairs of surviving crucks, at least one of which has truncated blades at the apex (type 'W'). The building can be traced back to at least 1553 in court records, and by 1824 seems to have been a small farmstead with barn, stable and cowhouse. See report for detail (B3).
