Description

Grade II. House. Late C18, much altered. Red and vitreous brick, the lower left corner with red brick quoins. Slate roof, wide brick chimney to left. 2 storeys, 2 bays. Paired barred wooden casements, those to first floor with segmental heads. Ground floor windows and central C20 barred and glazed door have cambered heads. C19 extension to right with large C20 garage extension projecting to front. Included for group value (B1).
Historic building assessment by AS&C in November 2008 suggested that the house originated as a timber-framed house in the seventeenth century, with refronting in brick, reroofing and other alterations in the late eighteenth or early nineteenth century. The house incorporates the remains of an eighteenth century timber-framed forge and the 1930s garage replaced an earlier wheelwright's workshop. See report for detail (B2).
Negative watching brief carried out by AS&C in 2010 during groundworks for extension (B3).
