('A' SP 78840041 'B' 78910037) Tumuli (NR) (B14).
On the north side of Lodge Hill, Saunderton, in a field called Foxhills, are two round barrows.
From the upper mound ('A') and surrounding ploughland, unburnt fragments of human bone were discovered. The lower mound ('B') yielded from its scattered material a few small and indeterminate fragments of Beaker pottery, two finely worked flint saws and other flint implements, some of which showed traces of burning.
Grooved ware sherds were also discovered, two of which bore finger impressioned, rusticated ornament (B5).
Possibly two more barrows of same type at 'C' SP 78880033 and 'D' SP 78950033 visible (B15).
Beaker sherds from Lodge Hill barrow Saunderton: Corpus Nos 45F and 46F, Aylesbury Mus (Acc Nos 139.57 and 140.57). Group E? and FN (B16).
Two ploughed down barrows situated on the lower western slopes of a prominent spur.
'A' SP 78840041 measures c 24.0m in overall diameter, and is c 1.0m high. There is no discernible trace of an outer ditch.
'B' SP 78900037 measures overall c 24.0m in diameter and is c 1.0m high. The line of the outer ditch shows as a dark soil mark on
the south side.
From their ploughed down condition it cannot be established whether 'A' and 'B' are ditched bowl or bell barrows, but from AP evidence (a) the much greater diameter of the ditch soil mark to the remaining mound suggests that 'A' at least is a bell barrow.
Resurveyed at 1:2500.
Alleged barrows 'C' and 'D' cannot be identified with certainty from Aps, and there is no trace of explanatory features on the ground (B17).

NRHE Insert 2000, updated 2002 (B18).
