Description

Grade II. House. Medieval and C17, altered. Witchert rendered and colourwashed. Thatched roof. One storey with attic. 3 bays. South elevation has 2 C19 sash windows, door and 3-light casement in centre, blocked door with casement and sash windows at right. Upper floor has 2 left hand eaves-dormers with casements, centre bay has eyebrow dormer with horizontal sliding sash and right hand bay has eaves dormer with sash. East bay added 1968 to replace cottage (no.3 Fort End). Interior. Cruck truss in east wall, chamfered blades, with wide collar-beam which has small arch braces, also chamfered. Originally in centre of 2-bay open hall, the eastern bay on the site of present modern link block between nos. 1 and 5. Similar cruck truss between right hand bays. Exposed timbers. Large stone chimney stack with inglenook and brick flue (B1).
