Building recording carried out in April 2006 by AS&C during repair work, identified the building as a late medieval open hall over a basement, with a parlour/kitchen to the west with a chamber above, and a rear lobby providing access to all floors. The main building had been extended in the late C16 or early C17 to provide a reception room on the ground floor and bedrooms above. Rooms were inserted above the hall in the late C17 or early C18. It is suggested that the building may originally have been built as a hunting lodge, and developed into an inn as the building was enlarged. See report for detail (B2).
Buildings report dated Nov 1985 held at NMR (B3).
AVDC Conservation team notes that an extension was built to replace the outbuildings on the NE side in around 1975.
