Description

Grade II. House. Late C16-C17. Timber frame with some curved braces, brick infill to south, whitewashed brick and plaster infill to north and rubble stone plinth. Thatch roof, half-hipped over lower right-hand bay. Large chimney between main right-hand bays has grouped shafts of thin brick.. Brick chimney to left gable has large roudnovern projection of rubble stone. 1 ½ storeys and attic with dormer windows to rear. 3 main bays. Irregular C20 leaded casements, mostly windows to rear, mostly 3-light, those to first floor partly in thatch. 2 board doors, one to right of left-hand bay, the other a lobby entry between right-hands bays with slightly arched lintel, casements and Sun fire insurance plaque above. Additional bay to right is lower, and weatherboarded with doors to left and 2 single leaded windows. Part of N side has tiled lean-to. RCHM II p 177 MON 6 (B1).
AVDC Conservation team note that the Sun insurance plaque had been removed by 1994. Interior: lobby entry plan. Stair from 1st floor to attic is over lobby in front of stack and may have continued down into the lobby before the flight in the centre room was built. Large axial beams with run-off chamfers. Attic stair has C17 balustrade with large turned balusters (B2).
