Description

MR WRIGHT BELIEVES THERE WAS A BRICK KILN ON W OF SITE, PRE-DATING THE BRICK ACT. HE HAS FOUND PIECES OF BRICK, TILE, BOTTLE BASES ETC. HE HAS ALSO OBSERVED A PIT OR DITCH OF UNKNOWN DATE (SEE CORRESPONDENCE) SITE IS TO BE DEVELOPED (B1).
Brick-kiln interpretation disputed due to lack of evidence of suitable brick-making material identified by geological test pits (B2).

West side of the site trenches cut across very broad, brick wall-footings, further to the west a dirty black soil containing much broken brick and tile. Wall footings were upto 0.40m thick and composed uniformly of 2 inch bricks in lime mortar. Photos in report (B4).
