Description

Plan Form - RECTANGULAR
APPROXIMATELY RECTANGULAR ENCLOSURE SHOWING AS CROPMARK ON AP'S (B1).

A probable Roman subrectangular ditched enclosure is visible on aerial photographs and remote sensing data as cropmarks and was mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located in a field about 500 metres WNW of Creslow village Holy Trinity Church and centred at SP 80649 22059, a subrectangular ditch up to 3.5 metres wide encloses an internal area about 64 metres WNW-ESE and 37.5 metres SSW-NNE. Within the enclosure is three pits of uncertain function. From the SW corner a curving 2.5 metres wide ditch extends about 46 metres to the ESE. On aerial photographs taken in 2020 and even on recent remote sensing data, the cropmarks remain visible. A cluster of nearby find spots suggest that this enclosure is of Roman date (2-5).
