Description

SILK MILL OPENED 1830 IN PART OF WORKHOUSE PREMISES. ORIGINALLY 40 LOOMS. BY 1885 70 STEAM-POWERED LOOMS AS WELL AS HAND LOOMS. 200 PEOPLE, MOSTLY GIRLS, EMPLOYED. ENLARGED 1844 WHEN WORKHOUSE MOVED. LATER BECAME HAZELL'S INK FACTORY. NOW DEMOLISHED (B1-2,B4).
