SHAFT APPEARED IN MIDDLE OF FIELD AT NGR. VERTICAL SIDES SHOW SANDY YELLOW CLAY WITH FLINTS & MANGANESE STAINING. AT BASE A COLLAPSED CONE, 4M BELOW GROUND LEVEL, OPENING INTO CAVITY. SHAFT DESCENDED. NO COLLAPSE FUNNEL AT MOUTH. NO EVIDENCE IT HAD BEEN 'DUG'. NATURAL COLLAPSE OR CHALK WELL? (NOTES FILED)(B1).
