Description

PRE-1066 2 MEN OF BRICTIC HELD A HIDE AT WHADDON, SLAPTON, IN HUGH DE BOLEBEC'S POSSESSION BY 1086. IN 1503 JOHN GROVE OF GREENHITHE, KENT, QUITCLAIMED SOUTH WHADDON MANOR OF C.300 ACRES TO THOS WOODMANCY. WHADDON FARM SHOWS THE SURVIVAL OF THE NAME. The nearness of Whaddon Farm may indicate that this was the site of the manor of South Whaddon, mentioned in 1503. (B1).

(SP 919214) The remains of a possible moated site with an adjoining ditched enclosure to the east (B4).
A rapid examination of air photography (3a) shows the earthworks of this possible moat, the enclosure and apparently associated ridge and furrow to the north and west of Whaddon Farm (B5).
