7 ROMAN COINS C2-4 (LIST OF COINS, FILED). FOUND C300M NNW OF LITTLE HORWOOD HOUSE (NGR TO CENTRE OF AREA, MARKED B ON MAP, FILED). MANY PIECES OF POTTERY & DARK SOIL MARK ALSO REPORTED IN AREA. NB; ROMAN SITE CASS 04137 IN SAME FIELD (B1).
An article tracing the 10th century boundary of the Manor of Winslow refers to the hamlet of 'Fenntunn' in the original charter of lands from King Offa in 792 AD. The name Fenton or Ventum is preserved as a medieval furlong and later a fieldname; and Fenton Dene or Ventonsdene, survived as the name of an open field furlong on the valley side. The name is also mentioned on the enclosure award (B3).

Linear features of probable Iron Age/Romano-British date are visible on historic aerial photographs as cropmarks and were mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located approximately 350m north west of Horwood House and centred at SP 79449 29868. These linear features cross and are possible boundaries; further sites are nearby (see MBC11060 and MBC43973). Roman pottery, tile and metal work have been found here along with prehistoric flint where cropmarks of enclosure are visible (see MBC11060). (4-5)
