Description
A quantity of gold angels, to the value of £50, was discovered in the wilderness west of Wooburn House, c1762, supposedly concealed there during the Civil War. There is a tradition that at that period Lord Wharton concealed £60,000 in a wood called West Wood and at the Restoration he could not recollect the exact spot; the only person privy to the transaction being either dead or in exile; but that after clearing 2 acres the whole was discovered (B1-2).
