Description

HOMESTEAD MOAT, FRAGMENT(B1).
WATERFILLED REMAINS OF PROBABLY SUB-SQUARE HOMESTEAD MOAT, COMPRISE N & W ARMS. THESE ARE 50M IN LENGTH, AVERAGE 5M IN WIDTH, THOUGH N ARM WIDENS OUT INTO A POND AT E END. SITE OF S & E ARMS IS OCCUPIED BY FARM BUILDINGS. POPLAR FARM IS AN C18 BRICK BUILDING (B2).


Fragmentary moat at Poplar Farm, Kimble Wick (Shown on OS 6" (1960) at SP 7980 0786) (B1).
The waterfilled remains of a probably sub-square home-stead moat at Poplar Farm, which are centred at SP 7978 0786, comprise the N and W arms. These are 50.0m in length and average 5.0m in width, though the N arm widens out into a pond at the E end. The site of the S and E arms is occupied by farm buildings.
Poplar Farm is an 18th century brick building. Published 1:2500 survey correct (B3).
