Description

Quantity abraded Romano-British sherds. Little is datable; no Samian or colour coat. All probably 2nd-3rd Century AD. Finds from the same field include some un-datable tile and 1 piece of puddingstone, possibly a quern, but there is other 'alien' rock in field. The main concentration of sherds is at SP96681391. The finds were made by Mrs J Burrows. There is an 18th century bottle dump nearby (B1).
A more detailed analysis of the 5 sample boxes of finds brought in by Mrs Burrows gives a listing of some 388 finds which include a shale bead or spindle whorl, a medieval figure of eight buckle, fishbones, a pig tooth, various pieces of smithing slag, 1 copper alloy ring, post medieval bottle and other glass, and various date ranges of pottery from Romano-British, to Samian ware and medieval. (B2).
