Description

SPRING KNOWN AS BRIGHT WELL - BRICK-LINED WELL-LIKE STRUCTURE WITH BRICK SUPERSTRUCTURE & TILE ROOF. WELL IS ONLY FEW FEET DEEP, & NEAR THE BOTTOM IS AN ?C18 CAST-IRON GATE VALVE WITH PIPE, POSSIBLY CONDUIT MENTIONED IN 1710 DEEDS OF BRITWELL HOUSE, & STILL USED. BRITWELL PLACE-NAME ?SAXON (B1).
Grade II. Known from Middle Ages, dried out in the drought of 1788. Well house, C17. Old red brick; hand made tile roof with gable ends. Small structure 6ft X 6ft approximately. Board door with large wrought iron hinges and wooden lintels. The well perhaps relined above the water line in C19 (B3).
